CURRENT TORO DEVELOPMENT
NETWORK PARTNERS
ToroDev benefits
from cooperating with like-minded organisations
in the areas of ICTs development in order to
realise its goal and objective. Some of these
partner organisations /institutions include the
following.
Kabissaĺs
mission is to help African civil society
organizations put information and communication
technologies (ICTs) to work for the benefit of
the people they serve. Kabissa works on three
main themes:
Enabling organizations to
access the power of the Internet
Kabissa provides African
organizations ľ regardless of size ľ
with accessible, affordable, and secure Internet
services specifically designed to address the
difficult working conditions they face. These
services include Web site hosting, e mail
accounts, online newsletters, and discussion
groups.
Empowering organizations to
integrate the Internet into their work
Kabissaĺs Time to Get
Online program combines self-learning materials
with hands-on workshops to empower African
organizations to fully integrate the Internet
into their work. The program is structured
around Kabissaĺs Steps to Success
methodology, which promotes the idea that
organizations must gradually build their
Internet skills and use those Internet tools
most appropriate for their own priorities,
communities, and environment.
Encouraging interaction
between African organizations
Kabissa creates opportunities
for organizations to network, share experiences,
and learn from each other. Kabissa's support
strengthens ties between member organizations
through Kabissaĺs Member Profiles
Directory, monthly eNewsletter, online
discussions, and space for sharing opportunities
from and for members.
ToroDev is a fully registered
member of Kabissa and has contributed to most of
our recent successes such as hosting our website
and providing Internet Learning Resources.
The work of Computer Aid
International in developing countries is to
identify potential recipient organisations where
the application of IT will have the most
positive social and economic impact and offer
them neccessary technical support that would
otherwise be difficult to pay for. Computer Aid
International Collect second hand working
computers from its donors, refubrishes them and
make them available for organisatinal and
institutional use in the developing world.
ToroDev through its parent
organisation, Centre for Research and
Empowerment of Young People (CREYP) applied for
sixty refurbrished computers from Computer Aid
International and was approved for the grant. It
is currently mobilising funds to ship the
computers from the UK.
Bridges.org is an international
organization based in Uganda and South Africa,
with a mission to promote the effective use of
information and communications technology (ICT)
in the developing world for meaningful purposes,
such as better healthcare, education and
self-sustaining economic development. It seeks
to bring a practical vision to the realities of
ICT-enabled socio-economic development, and an
important aspect of its strategy is to apply
basic business principles and processes in
development projects. It conducts technology
research, evaluations and policy analysis to
inform civil society organizations, governments,
development aid agencies and the business
community and help them improve the way they
integrate ICT into their activities. This in
turn brings the benefits of technology to more
people Ś students, small business owners,
doctors and their patients and the general
public Ś in more meaningful ways: not only
to overcome the challenges and adversities they
face, but to give them the tools to build their
own solutions and manage their own affairs in
more efficient ways.
ToroDev used one of Bridges.org
criteria, "Real Access/Real Impact" to
conduct its research on the best and effective
application of modern ICTs for the development
of young people in Toro region. Our Organisation
continues to share expirience and resources with
Bridges.org in the ICT sector.
I-Network, was established
in 2002 and has grown over time into a
recognized ICT for development (ICT4D)
organization in Uganda with more than 200
registered members from the public, private and
civil society sectors. Membership is not closed
to the public but is rather based on the
interest of individuals and organizations in
Knowledge sharing on ICT4D. Members also range
from active to passive participants. The active
members are closely attached to I-Network
programs such as Nodes, while passive ones are
mainly participants at I-Network
seminars.
ToroDev continue to create
a strong relationship with I-network especially
in areas of ICT4D research and knowledge
sharing.
